US authorities block Ethereum address of Lazarus group

The US Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has put a cryptocurrency address on its sanctions list that may be linked to the Lazarus hacker group.

The address is currently flagged as being linked to the Ronin sidechain attack. At the time of writing the news, the wallet had 147,753 ETNs on it.

Сhainalysis analysts also believe this address was involved in the hacking of Ronin's sidechain. According to Schainalustis, it received 173,600 ETH and 25.5 million USDC of the stolen funds.

The FBI says the Lazarus group is responsible for stealing $620 million in cryptocurrency. In the attack on Ronin, the attacker withdrew a total of $625 million in assets.

Lazarus has also been linked to North Korean authorities. Hackers have also been implicated in other major hacks in the crypto industry.

Recall that the hack of blockchain game Axie Infinity, which runs on Ronin, became known on 29 March. The Ronin hack was the biggest in the history of the DeFi industry.
