About the wallet

About the wallet

Cryptocurrency wallet Core was released by Ava Labs on June 22, 2022. The developers are positioning their application as a universal operating system for Web3 applications. The app's functionality is indeed extensive, with features such as:

  • Bridge — bridge your native Bitcoin using the same trusted technology powering the Avalanche Bridge (support for Ethereum tokens (ERC-20) is coming soon)
  • Swap — swap hundreds of Avalanche tokens directly from Core
  • Buy — fund Core with cash in just a few clicks
  • Ledger-enabled — compatible with industry-leading, secure hardware wallet
  • Portfolio — view all assets in a unified display without having to manually add token addresses or switch networks
  • Collectibles Gallery — manage and display all of your favorite NFTs in one consolidated portal
  • Subnets — Native support for subnets including DFK and Swimmer with dynamic support forthcoming
  • Address Book — create contacts to save frequently used, trusted addresses
  • Account Switcher — create and manage multiple addresses using the same recovery phrase

As you can see, this is one of the most advanced crypto wallets in terms of functionality, and the developers promise to expand it continuously.

Creating a wallet and getting started

To start using Core Crypto Wallet, you need to install an extension for Chrome browser. To achieve this, you need to go to Chrome web store by following this link and click on “Add to Chrome”.

Creating a wallet and getting started

When the extension has been successfully installed, the wallet page will open.

Create a new wallet

Two options will be available:

  • Create a new wallet — if you want to create a wallet from scratch.
  • Access Existing Wallet — log in to the previously created wallet.

After clicking on the “Create a new wallet” button, the creation of a wallet will begin. First, you will need to enter a username and create a password.

First you will need to enter a user name and create a password.

Think of a password that is at least eight characters long. Agree to the terms of use and privacy policy and go to the next step.

The next step is to copy and save the Secret Recovery Phrase. This data should preferably be saved in a password manager that only you have access to. This completes the creation of the wallet.

Core Wallet interface

Let's look at the cryptocurrency wallet interface.

interface

The crypto wallet interface is simple and concise, with nothing superfluous. The main screen, 'Assets', displays all available crypto-assets. The “Collectibles” tab is used to display NFT collections, and the last tab “Activity” provides a list of recent transactions.

Settings

Clicking in the top-left corner will open the settings menu. There are not many functions here at the moment.
The first setting available to the user is to select the currency to be used by default. The following currencies can be selected:

  • United States Dollar (USD)
  • Euro (EUR)
  • Japanese Yen (JPY)
  • Pound Sterling (GBP)
  • Australian Dollar (AUD)
  • Canadian Dollar (CAD)
  • Swiss Frank (CHF)
  • Chinese Renminbi (CNH)
  • Hong Kong Dollar (HKD)
  • New Zealand Dollar (NZD)

The second setting available is the option to enable Testnet Mode. Activating this mode changes the crypto wallet interface to display the available test networks.

There is also an option in the settings menu to add contacts to the address book.

This is probably all the user can use. This is because the Core Crypto Wallet is currently in beta testing.

Even though the developers are positioning Core as a universal cryptocurrency wallet, at the moment it is best used for projects running on Avalanche network. For example, with the Avalaunch launchpad, which you can read a review of on our website.

Conclusion

Although Ava Labs' Core Crypto Wallet is currently in beta testing, it already offers Avalanche users a wide range of features. The user-friendly interface, with such a set of features, shows that this crypto wallet is being developed by professionals.

The developers have big plans for this project, and if everything they have in mind will come to life, it is likely that Core wallet will be the only wallet for all operations with crypto-assets.
